چکیده

We study braneworld scenarios within the framework of five-dimensional general relativity. The braneworld Einstein field equations (BEFE) of Shiromizu, Maeda and Sasaki (SMS) possess two salient features which distinguish them from the analogous Einstein field equations, namely a Weyl term and a term Q quadratic in the braneworld energy-momentum. The former is commonly neglected, while the precise form of Q is kept. We demonstrate that there is a great deal of freedom to reformulate the BEFE. An important consequence of this is that the resulting truncated braneworld equations, which arise from the generalization of the neglect of the Weyl term in the SMS equations, are usually inequivalent. We give examples of formulations of BEFE in which either (or indeed both) of the above salient features are absent. This could have important consequences for very early universe studies in braneworld scenarios. This highlights the potential dangers in using the Q obtained by truncation of the usual SMS BEFE. A new numerical code for computing stationary axisymmetric rapidly rotating stars in general relativity is presented. The formulation is based on a fully constrained-evolution scheme for 3 + 1 numerical relativity using the Dirac gauge and maximal slicing. We use both the polytropic and MIT bag model equations of state to demonstrate that the code can construct rapidly rotating neutron star and...

We use the Einstein energy-momentum complex to calculate the energy distribution of static plane-symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations in 3+1 dimensions with asymptotic anti-de Sitter behavior. These are expressed in terms of the ADM mass density, charge density and cosmological constant.

Two models, one assuming a massive dilaton and the other a massless dilaton, are used to calculate the equivalence violations of the spectrum of atoms. These are then compared and conclusions drawn.

We give a careful general relativistic and (1+3)-covariant analysis of cosmological peculiar velocities induced by matter density perturbations in the presence of a cosmological constant. In our quasi-Newtonian approach, constraint equations arise to maintain zero shear of the non-comoving fundamental worldlines which define a Newtonian-like frame, and these lead to the (1+3)-covariant dynamica...
